It has been five whole weeks since I’ve “put pen to paper” and written a blog. I try to write one every time we move, usually typing while Tom is driving us down the road. Lately we have been moving less and the distances traveled have been so short that there hasn’t been the time to write while traveling. Tom keeps asking me if I’ve given up on the blog, but I’ve decided I don’t want to, even though I’m getting more and more behind with each move.

I thought I’d take a minute to explain to anyone who may have been following our adventures the reason there have been no blogs posted for so long.

If I have a passion, writing is it. And I’m not the only one – there are many writers in my family. So I’ve enjoyed tremendously putting into words all the great adventures (and not so great times) that we’ve had the past three years. Writer’s block has never been a problem for me, even when there are no adventures or misadventures to write about. So, for better or worse, I just let the words flow through the keyboard.

Then the words just sit there on my laptop waiting for me to add the pictures. And that’s where my problem lies. Especially when I’ve written about these fabulous places that we’ve been. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I’ve made novellas out of some of these blogs. But I’m not so good a writer as to paint a scene for you to enjoy – that’s what the pictures are for!

We take so many of them. Tom on his phone, me on mine. The process of culling through all of the pictures, narrowing them down to tell the story, then editing and cropping and finding the right place to insert them – it all takes me a long time. And it’s not as enjoyable to me as the word part, so the blog gets delayed in getting posted.

Really delayed at the moment. I just checked to see where we were in the last blog I posted and it was still in Colorado last July – almost eight months and four states ago! That’s a lot of catching up to do. And I wonder if it’s worth it. Then I remember how we’ve referred to a blog to jog our memory of a certain campground or town we want to share with a fellow traveler – or just to reminisce about our travels – and I don’t want to have an eight month gap.

So I will get this posted as a way to hold myself accountable to getting caught up. Hmmm….that makes me laugh at my optimism.

Because I’m very busy with things that take precedence over writing a blog.

Even though Tom is officially retired, I am not. I still need to create income. Using my time to make money is more important. Spending time with family and friends is more important. And seeing and experiencing all these wonderful places we’ve been is more important than the writing about the experiences. Then there’s the everyday living chores that get in the way: laundry, shopping, cooking, cleaning, tracking expenses and filing taxes. Geesh, I’m more tired than re-tired!

Not that I don’t do my share of goofing off. Yes, we sometimes binge on Netflix. Yes, I love to read a good book now and then. Yes, I’ve spent WAY too much time going down rabbit holes on youtube. And yes, lately I’ve spent too many hours searching for a new home on RVtrader. But that is another story for another day!

For now I’m going to get this posted, and make getting caught up more of a priority.

But no promises that this blog will be regular or even in order. I may try to post current and get old ones posted as I can. We’ll see.

If you happen to be reading this, you’re amazing! Thank you for letting me indulge.

Happy Travels,

Peace & Love, Joy
